James 5:16 (KJV)
16 … The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
What an incredible morning we had today as men gathered to pray at 6:30am in the “Upper Room” at New Life Church. Holy Spirit dropped this verse into my spirit, James 5:16
Energeo is the Greek word used to translate effectual and fervent in this verse. It means to be active and to be mighty in. There are moments during our prayer time that quiet contemplation is necessary as we hear from God. But I have found that along with hearing from God during times of stillness there are two other components to my prayer time. First of all I talk to God using words. This is very simple. I use words to praise Him and thank Him for what He’s done and for who He is. I share my heart with him. Confess sins, forgive those that have done me wrong, pray for my family, staff and church. Secondly, I pray in the Spirit using my prayer language. Romans 8:26 describes this as the Spirit interceding for us even when we don’t know what to pray for. For me these first two moments of prayer are “energeo”, fervent and full of passion. I speak out loud, walk, lay prostrate, lift my hands. The third component of my prayer time is that still quiet time where I hear Him speak to me.
The Disciple asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. They knew that the source of His life and ministry was prayer. My heart is that God would teach us how to pray effectively, with great energy, and stillness so that we can accomplish much in the Spirit.
Make it an “Energeo” day!

This was a timely post for me as I have set my heart on
hearing the word of God today. Thanks
